Fannie Mae Sustainable Communities Innovation Challenge for Affordable Housing – proposals accepted through 2/23/2018. Info HERE

 

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is offering grants through the Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program. Funding is on a per diem basis for organizations providing transitional housing for homeless veterans. Deadline: 2/28/2018. Click here for program guidelines.

 

USDA Publishes NOSA for Section 538 Guaranteed Rural Rental Housing Program for FY 2018. Applications may be submitted either electronically using the Section 538 electronic response FORM

 

Home Depot Foundation – Community Impact Grant application will open again 2/1/2018 HERE . If you are interested in the program for Veterans (New construction and rehabilitation of multifamily, permanent supportive housing or transitional housing, next cycle deadline 3/16/18) you can complete the eligibility quiz HERE.

Volunteer West Virginia & the WV Nonprofit Association will be hosting a free webinar “AmeriCorps Speed Dating”. Programs covered will include: AmeriCorps, VISTA, AmeriCorps NCCC, and Senior Corps. The webinar will take place on January 18, 11am – 12pm.

USDA: Two new Rural Development training webinars are now posted and available for use: Overview of the Section 502 direct loan program’s pre-qualification and application processes found under the “Forms & Resources” for Single Family Housing Direct Home Loans. Overview of changes made to the Section 504 direct loan and grant repair programs; webinar and associated handout are available under the “Forms & Resources” for Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grants.

 

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: On Dec. 27, 2017, the Bureau announced the asset-size exemption thresholds for depository institutions under Regulation C and for creditors under the escrow requirements and small-creditor portfolio and balloon-payment qualified mortgage requirements, and the prohibition against balloon-payment high-cost mortgages under Regulation Z. The National Housing Trust has released a paper, “Using Land to Restore Neighborhoods and Build Community,” it explores how community land trusts can be implemented to address a wide variety of needs, and presents profiles of four community land trust organizations that share how they evolved to better serve their communities. Get the paper here.

Now available: Rural Aging in Place Toolkit which compiles resources and model programs on Aging in Place. Created by University of Minnesota Rural Health Research Center and the Rural Health Information Hub, it is designed to guide the reader through creating a sustainable program from development through evaluation.

From The Rural Health Information Hub: has released a guide: Chronic Disease in Rural America providing a general overview of chronic disease and other specific conditions, including heart disease and stroke, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory conditions, arthritis and HIV/AIDS.

The CDC has released a report: “Rural America in Crisis: The Changing Opioid Overdose Epidemic” discussing the history of the opioid epidemic and its effect on rural communities, as well as key functions of public health programs that can help prevent opioid overdoses.

USDA Economic Research Service released its 2017 edition of Rural America at A Glance highlighting recent social and economic conditions in rural America, county-level trends in population, employment, income, poverty, and broadband connectivity.

 

The team behind The Hub’s Policy program looks to find policy-based solutions in response to challenges that West Virginians are facing in their everyday lives. Understanding where West Virginians are feeling+observing pressure points is a key part of making this work. Check HERE to comment.
