Exciting Opportunity from Kiran Singh Sirah, President, International Storytelling Center: If you know of any Appalachian youth, emerging artists or young people, aged between 16-30 years that you feel could benefit from participating in our upcoming Appalachian youth summit, please could you put them in touch with Lilli Erbach our youth Summit Coordinator.

This summit is free for participants, and includes travel stipends for participants, meals and accommodation support if needed for those traveling from a distance. It is a unique opportunity to network and learn with other Appalachian Youth all passionate about creating change, and making a difference to Appalachia, through storytelling.

This is our second year of this three year summit series. Last year the National Humanities Alliance featured our annual summit as a project that convenes young social entrepreneurs from Appalachia to support one another’s social initiatives Power of Storytelling

Appalachia Funders NetworkCreative Placemaking Opportunity: The Arts & Culture Group of AFN released this  RFP looking for an artist/writer to commission to (1) write 4-6 profiles of projects that integrate arts and culture into their community economic development work, and (2) write 20-30 brief summaries of projects that integrate arts and culture into community economic development work. The RFP includes details of the project. You can also find the posting on the Network’s website, here. The deadline to submit proposals is end of day Monday, November 4.

From Katy Stigers: Fahe is represented in the current issue of the Journal of Appalachian Health. This new journal focuses on rapid sharing of results and knowledge about health in Appalachia. It is open source/open access so unlike many scholarly publications it is easy to access. The articles are readable for a lay audience, with a peer-review process to ensure quality and rigor.  Check out the table of contents for relevant articles. Initially funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Check out the “Voices from the Hollow section” and share your thoughts!
