USDA Published a NOSA for Section 538 Guaranteed Rural Rental Housing Program for FY 2018. Applications may be submitted either electronically using the Section 538 electronic response FORM

Home Depot Foundation – Community Impact Grant application is open as of 2/1/2018 HERE . If you are interested in the program for Veterans (New construction and rehabilitation of multifamily, permanent supportive housing or transitional housing, next cycle deadline 3/16/18) you can complete the eligibility quiz HERE.

ARC – POWER 2018 – On February 1, ARC issued a request for proposals for 2018 POWER Initiative funding. In 2018, POWER will focus on investments that are regional, strategic, and transformational and that maximize the economic revitalization of Appalachia’s coal-impacted communities and regions. Regulation Update through Procedure Notice (PN) 508 dated February 2, 2018updates to Handbook-1-3550 have been posted and will be effective on March 4, 2018.  These changes will streamline and improve the delivery of the Single Family Housing Direct Loan and Grant Programs.  These updates will benefit our customers, Rural Development staff, and stakeholders.  To view a complete list of the specific revisions to the handbook, please visit this link.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: The 2018 edition of the “Guide To HMDA Reporting: Getting It Right!” is now available HERE  More information HERE.  The 2018 version, developed by the FFIEC agencies, reflects the updates to the HMDA Rule in effect beginning Jan. 1, 2018.  The appendices provide additional implementation materials you may find useful. Learn more at consumerfinance.gov.

VHA’s HELP Center is again pleased to partner with the Virginia Poverty Law Center to offer Landlord Tenant Training in recognition of Fair Housing month this April. The training will walk through the laws that underlie a person’s access to stable housing. These laws include those related to when a landlord can legally refuse to rent to someone, when and how a landlord can lawfully evict someone and how a tenant should handle a landlord’s refusal to make necessary repairs. The National Housing Trust has released a paper, “Using Land to Restore Neighborhoods and Build Community,” it explores how community land trusts can be implemented to address a wide variety of needs, and presents profiles of four community land trust organizations that share how they evolved to better serve their communities. Get the paper here.

Now available: Rural Aging in Place Toolkit which compiles resources and model programs on Aging in Place. Created by University of Minnesota Rural Health Research Center and the Rural Health Information Hub, it is designed to guide the reader through creating a sustainable program from development through evaluation.

From The Rural Health Information Hub: has released a guide: Chronic Disease in Rural America providing a general overview of chronic disease and other specific conditions, including heart disease and stroke, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory conditions, arthritis and HIV/AIDS.

The CDC has released a report: “Rural America in Crisis: The Changing Opioid Overdose Epidemic” discussing the history of the opioid epidemic and its effect on rural communities, as well as key functions of public health programs that can help prevent opioid overdoses.

USDA Economic Research Service released its 2017 edition of Rural America at A Glance highlighting recent social and economic conditions in rural America, county-level trends in population, employment, income, poverty, and broadband connectivity.
