Provide input to KHC & DLG for the Consolidated Plan – Deadline for Comments is Oct. 4

Kentucky Housing Corporation and the Department for Local Government are preparing the State’s 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan and Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice.

As practitioners in the field, we want to hear your opinions and ideas on the priority needs for the next five years—affordable housing, fair housing, public infrastructure, and facilities improvements needed to support and improve Kentucky’s communities (CDBG, HOME, ESG, HOPWA & NHTF).

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:

HUD – (NOFA) posted: FY 2019 CoC Program Competition: Funding Availability. The CoC Application, CoC Priority Listing, and Project Applications will be available the week of July 8, 2019 in e-snaps. Collaborative Submission Deadline: Monday, September 30, 2019 at 8:00 PM EDT

Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland will present two Investment Connection events in 2019 in which selected proposals will be “pitched” to an audience of funders:

  • October 15: Stuart’s Opera House, Nelsonville, OH (9:00 am-noon) | Register
  • October 30: Natural Bridge State Resort Park, Slade, KY (9:30 am-12:30 pm) | Register

Proposals will address the needs of low- and moderate-income populations in southeast Ohio or Eastern Kentucky related to the following categories:

  • Affordable housing/healthy communities
  • Asset building/financial access, capability, and empowerment
  • Broadband services/digital inclusion
  • Community services and facilities
  • Small business development/microlending
  • Workforce development/economic development

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

2019 Building HOME Webinar Series V is open for registration. Register today! Each series will include 4 weekly 2-hour sessions on Wednesdays from 1:00 – 3:00 PM EDT followed with a 1-hour Office Hour session on Thursdays to review homework and answer questions related to that week’s materials. For example, Office Hours will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM EDT on October 3, 2019 following the October 2, 2019 webinar. You must have a HUD Exchange account to register. Follow these instructions for registering.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 Appalachian Gateway Communities Regional Workshop, to be held November 5-7, 2019 in Bristol, TN. This 3-day team-based workshop will provide communities with the skills needed to drive sustainable economic development while preserving their unique community character. To be eligible to participate in the workshop, communities must be  in an ARC-designated distressed, transitional, or at-risk county. Applications are due September 16.

HUD released a new online course called CHDO Opportunities in HOME. This self-paced online training serves as both a comprehensive introduction and an important refresher on regulatory requirements for CHDOs under the HOME Program.

Online Self-Guided Training from NWA – Fahe has purchased unlimited access to 22 training courses, registration (free of charge to Fahe Members). You can register through Sept. 30 and have 60 days in which to complete the course and tests. Contact Jackie for registration info.

From Katy Stigers: Fahe is represented in the current issue of the Journal of Appalachian Health. This new journal focuses on rapid sharing of results and knowledge about health in Appalachia. It is open source/open access so unlike many scholarly publications it is easy to access. The articles are readable for a lay audience, with a peer-review process to ensure quality and rigor.  Check out the table of contents for relevant articles. Initially funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Check out the “Voices from the Hollow section” and share your thoughts!
